To welcome and celebrate a new life, there is a tradition in China to make a "Bai Jai Bei", or 100 Good Wishes Quilt.  It is a custom to invite friends and family to contribute a patch of cloth with a wish for the child.  The squares are sewn together into a quilt that contains the luck, energy, and good wishes from all the families and friends who contributed a piece of fabric.

We invite you to join in our second  "Bai Jai Bei"  project.  Choose any 100% cotton fabric that you like, or that represents who you are.  Examples are Grandpa was a policeman, so something related to that.  If you are a Gator fan, than a Gator fabric.  If you like to garden, flowers would be perfect.  Each member of your family can send a different square to fit their personality.  Please send  one 10" square of fabric (100% cotton).   Along with the fabric, please send a "good wish" or prayer, or anything else you would like to share with her on a note card.  You can take a scrap of fabric and glue it to the card, that way we can tell which quilt square goes with which person/wish.  This will help keep her traditions and culture alive and will also be a special keepsake when she is older and can see how many people joined in the prayers to bring her home.  You can fold it all up and put it in a regular envelope.

Many of you contributed to Natalie's quilt, and it came out beautiful! We hope you will again participate.  I know in the years to come both of our girls will treasure this special keepsake.
